London Hot Water Debacle

Chris and I do not have a good track record with rental apartments and central heating. In Cambridge we had no heat for a month. The rental company tried to "fix" our broken heater by overriding the safety switch for the gas. One smelly morning a few days later NStar came and shut us down. The NStar engineer also rescued my dish towels and an old shower curtain from the depths of the gas leaking heater.

That was February 2007 in Boston. This is August 2008 in London. It is hotter than H-E double hockey sticks. Who cares if British Gas deems the "fireplace" unsafe? We do. Turns out you disconnect the fireplace, you have disconnected our hot water heater.

The landlord dutifully jumped into action. While the fireplace remains an unused relic the hot water heater has been given new life with an immersion. An immersion is basically electricity. We plug the heater in, wait an hour and then we have exactly enough water for a 6 minute shower. If you have visited us already you know that we are experts at the 6 minute shower. 6 minutes seems to be the size of the hot water tank.

All I can say is thank goodness it is not February.

For dinner tonight: Tina's Killer Meatloaf. Will report back.

Let's try this again.

OK...so I tried this blog thing once, but didn't stick with it. Now I am hoping things are different. This is where we will keep all of you up to date about our comings and goings. We'll share some photos and stories of London and then all of our travels in Asia. Let me know if I drop the ball. Stay on top of me. I am still getting used to this writing in public thing. I promise to do my all to stick with it.

Have fun!
